Arizona

February 23rd - 27th~

We rented a hotel in Chandler, about 20 minutes from Mesa. The hotel was not great, but the kids thought it was the most amazing place they had ever seen. In their defense, they did have a nice pool.they had ever seen.  In their defense, they did have a cool pool.

Nothing beats Nana and Papa's pool though.

We also hit a few parks.

We went to the flea market and found a few good rock vendors.

Chris wouldn't let me buy this shirt for him.

Then there was more fun at Nana & Papa's.

And finally time to head back home.

Sun Devil Classic - Chandler, Az

February 26th~

We picked Arizona for our out-of-state meet. The meet was held in Chandler and was the largest we had been to, with the most difficult competition. Plus, the judges scored hard for everyone.

They had a fancy camera set up at the entrance, and Sam entertained himself with that for quite a while.

Sam and Quackers also had to get their picture with the cactus.

The Silvers who also traveled to Arizona.

Carmen, Molly, Milana, Avery, Taliyah

The best part of the meet was they had a professional photographer that took pictures of each athlete during their floor routine.

Molly took 3rd on beam and 7th overall.

Her scores were:
Vault: 8.4 for 13th
Bars: 9.0 for 9th
Beam: 9.35 for 3rd
Floor: 9.05 for 8th
Total: 35.80 for 7th out of 13 gymnastics

Chris found this shirt at the competition.

Diamond Lane Basketball

October 4th - February 21st ~

Sam joined Diamond Lane basketball for the winter season. The coach was excellent, but Sam was never excited to go to practice. It didn't help that it took about two months before they had their first basketball game. Their 3rd-grade team also had second-graders and two 4th-graders, so when they finally got to play, they had to play up with the 4th-grade teams. The team could have done better for the tournament's first game but came within a few points of winning the second game and then lost the third game as well.
This convinced Sam even more that he did not like basketball. However, a week after the season ended, he started carrying his basketball everywhere, including school. Basketball is now "his sport," and he plays it consistently almost every day.

Rumble in the Jungle - 2024

February 3rd and 4th ~

Rumble in the Jungle was Molly's first travel gymnastic meet, held in Pocatello. We drove up on Saturday, and Molly competed on Sunday.

Our hotel was by an Applebee's, and Sam was very excited to find the "longest" fry.

Molly competed so well and surprised us all with a first-place finish in beam, third on bars, and fifth overall. Her team took first overall, and Molly was chosen to take the trophy home before returning it to the gym the next day. She could not stop smiling.

Sam was also incredibly proud of Molly and jumped into the pictures with her. As we were walking out, he told Molly he would have given her a 10 on beam, but when Sam saw the 9.5, he was still so happy he wanted to jump over the fence and hug her.

Her overall scores were:

Vault: 8.75 = 11th

Bars: 9.275 = 3rd

Beam: 9.5 = 1st

Floor: 9.125 = 9th

Overall: 36.65 for 5th out of 13 girls.

Molly was not impressed with her hair once I took it out, but I thought she looked very cute.
