Teddy Bear Classic - Molly's First Gymanstic Meet

December 9th~

Molly joined teams gymnastics with Meridian Academy of Gymnastics this past summer. She has worked hard on skills and routines for her competition for the last few months. The Teddy Bear Classic was held at the fairgrounds and was Molly's first competitive meet. We didn't know what to expect from her skill level, but she got good scores overall and even placed 5th on the floor, with her team taking home 3rd.

We had a parent do Molly's hair and she loved it.

 Waiting between events.

I must have been too involved watching the floor routine because I didn't take any pictures.

Molly's score and places were:

Floor    9.175 - 5th

Out of 13 total girls in Molly's group.

And then lots of pictures from mom of Molly and her medals.

Competitive Soccer - Boise Timbers Thorns

November 2023 ~

Sam tried out and made the competitive soccer team with Boise Timbers Thorns. Practice started in mid-July, but the first games were in mid-September. This made getting Sam to commit to the practices more challenging since he only likes the games. Since Sam had minimal soccer experience, he was placed on the lower team of his group. The kids were also divided by birth year. All, except one other player from his rec team, was born in 2015. This meant Sam didn't know any of his teammates and was also the youngest player on the team.

His team could have been better, but he scored a goal and made a few assists. He was fun to watch, and even though he had frustrations, you could see him beam whenever he sprinted after another player.

Molly usually wraps herself up in a blanket with a book at his games.

Molly's Back X-rays

September 9th~

Molly had been complaining of back pain for a few months, and we got a set of X-rays to check things out before we decided on the best course of action. Through the X-rays, Molly was diagnosed with spina bifida occulta. This is a reasonably common occurrence, but people generally only discover it randomly, and it only causes issues in a small percentage of diagnosed individuals. Unfortunately, we do not know if the back pain is related to this, but from everything we have been told and read, it will be vital for her to get and maintain a strong core.

Molly did physical therapy for a few months; while not doing gymnastics moves, she knew aggravated her back, and for now, she has no back complaints!
