2017 Elk Hunt

September 15-24th~

Chris went on his annual elk hunt in September 2017 and was hit by another major winter storm. It started snowing on Friday when Chris and Jake drove over from Boise and didn’t finish snowing until the day after they left. That is 8 days, longer than any snow storm that Chris experienced while living for 23 years in the Midwest! Regardless, the guys had a good hunt and got into elk most of the days. None of them harvested an elk but they had some close calls! They hiked in for their first camp of the week and had a few mishaps. Corey got bad altitude sickness (was vomiting and cramping the first night) to the point that he could not hunt and Josh’s tent was crushed by falling snow which broke a few poles and ripped the nylon. The guys licked their wounds and headed back to basecamp. Chris caught a cold and lost his energy to hunt and the rest of the group kept up with the task. In the end there were no elk harvested, but the guys added another year of valuable experiences hunting elk in the West.

Fit One 2017

September 23rd~

I signed up for the Fit One half again this year.  I stayed running after the Wilson 50k, but my distance had definitely dropped. However, I still knew I could complete the 13.1 miles and wasn't really looking for a PR.  I just wanted to have fun on a race.

This was first time this year that we ran in significantly colder weather.  Apparently this was good for me and I felt great the entire time.  My goal is always to come in under 2 hrs, and I knew I was close, but didn't want to push myself too hard in case I hit the wall.  Well I never found the wall and came in at 2 hrs 12 seconds.  Though I like to justify, that my watch said we ran 13.2 miles, and I didn't see the finish line.  I crossed the first timing pad and slowed down thinking I was already done, then I saw the real finish line and had to pick up my pace again.  Either way, I could not have been happier with the race overall.

I came in 340th of 1135 overall runners and 33rd of 132 female runners aged 33-39. My chip time was 2:00:12.

(Katie also ran but we lost her until later and Tim ran the 5K)

Sam and Molly's Daycare Pictures

September 18th~

Sam ran away from me and down the hallway when he saw his school's photographer. I then had to bribe him with a skittle every time she sat down for his pictures.  It took awhile and I was late for work, but we at least got a good one of him!

I love that he said he wanted to be a digger driver :)

I didn't know they were going to take Molly's pictures as well.  When we got home that night I told her I thought being a veterinarian would be cool and she said "dang it, I meant to say what you were but forgot the name."

Zoo with Nana

September 17th~

I did not bring my big camera on this zoo trip since I figured I had enough pictures of the kids at the zoo.  However, I still couldn't get out of there with no pictures.

I had promised Molly she could get a new stuffed animal from the zoo for awhile now, so Molly went straight for the gift shop.  Her and Sam were all too happy to carry their animals around the zoo.

September 11th

September 11th~

I was able to pick Molly up from school on the 11th and she was so happy to show off her new hat.  Her teacher then sent us an email of Molly's class saying they love America.  It doesn't sound like they explained 9/11 to the kids, but I am happy Molly is learning this is a date to remember America.

Art in the Park and Barbacoa

September 10th~

Sunday just Molly and I met the rest of the family at church.  It was the Orange Service so Molly got to sit with us AND they were giving away free donuts.  She was in heaven.  After church we headed to Art in the Park for a bit.  I thought Molly would be into more than she was, but her favorite part was riding on a real school bus.

Aunt Betsy and Uncle Al were in town and graciously took us all out to Barbacoa that night. As always, the food and atmosphere was spectacular.

Boise State vs. Troy

September 2nd~

I was on call for Memorial Day weekend so we stayed home instead of heading to the cabin. Kristin and Tim were also in town and we decided to go the Boise State Game. After being called in for work, then getting my run in, we met up at the Ram for some pregame goodies.

The game itself was good, but it was HOT. The stadium actually ran out of water and ice after half time and finally brought in tanks to had out free cups to everyone. We only latest through the third quarter before we decided we needed to get out of there before we got sick.

Boise State won 21-13

The stands did fill up pretty good, but we wanted to get there early.
