First Day of School 2019

August 26th~

Molly is officially a second grader and I have one more year until Sam goes to Kindergarten.

Molly was excited about her first day of school in Mrs. Howell's class.  Mrs. Howell is Molly's friend's mom, and Molly had been hoping to be assigned to her classroom.  This year Molly would also not be riding the bus alone.  Two younger kids from Molly's daycare were starting school at River Valley and Molly got to be the older kid who showed them the ropes with the school bus.

Sam also told me he was excited to get back to his learning as well so I had pretty happy kids.

Millie is also in Molly's class.

When Sam saw the splash pad was open, he made Nana bring them to the house so he could get his swimsuit.

Roaring Springs 2019

August 18th~

We scheduled our annual trip to Roaring Springs to coincide with the rest of the family.

Molly had grown enough over the past year that she was finally able to try out some new slides with her cousins.  Sam still has a bit to go, but that did not stop him from having fun.

Post Canyon 50k and Half Marathon

August 8 - 11th~

The Sloths decided it was time to plan another destination race, and we settled on Post Canyon in Hood River. The race had a 50k and half marathon option.  I signed up for the 50k along with Todd, Tim, Katie, Zif and Renee. Kristin, Brandy, Jill, and Jay signed up for the half.  However, Renee and Todd were both battling injuries so Renee skipped the weekend all together and Todd settled on the half marathon.

The race was on Saturday, but most of us came in Thursday night.

Friday, we headed into town and walked around. That night we stayed in and caught up with Jill and Jay.  Then it was race prepping and off to bed.

My training had again been minimal and with an 8-hour cutoff time, I knew I had to average about 14-minute miles. I was able to maintain that pace for all my training runs and was feeling confident I would finish, but not much before the 8 hours.

The race was setup for everyone to run the half marathon first, and then the 50k-ers would continue on another loop. I knew I could always end after the half, but thought if I didn't push myself too hard, I would be able to finish the 50k.

We all started together and by mile 2, I called Chris telling him not to miss us at the half marathon point because I was most likely stopping at the half.

And we are off...

The course was insane.  I am pretty sure I was averaging 20 minute miles after the first two miles.  I was still hopeful the course would even out and I would be able to make up time.  However, that was not the case.  I went even slower on the downhill than the up trying to keep my feet under me.

The views were amazing and I was having such a good time with my friends, I decided by the 5 mile mark, I was going to enjoy this 13.1 miles and not worry about anything more.

We had to use a rope to climb this hill up and down!!!

The views were amazing.

This was part of our trail...

When I hit the end of the half marathon course, I was averaging close to 18 minute miles.

All done.

The rest of the day we relaxed and watched Netflix.

A much earned dinner.

While I couldn't help but be disappointed in my first ever DNF, I decided to focus on all the positive from the weekend.  This was my facebook post:
I attempted my 2nd 50k this weekend but by mile 3 I knew I was not going to make the c
utoff time, my first DNF. Instead I had the best half marathon trail run and ran/hiked in awe of the scenery with my amazing friends. What could have been a huge disappointment became a weekend full of wonderful memories!
