Family Time in Riggins

May 29th-31st~

We decided to join Daddy at the hotel in Riggins again this year.  We left Friday night and stayed at the cabin.  The cousins were also there for the weekend so Molly was able to run around and play with them.

Saturday we left Cascade around 10 am and took off for Riggins.  We made a few stops along the way to try our luck at morel hunting, but did not do too great.  Daddy found a few, Molly one, and I found Sam his first!  After that Molly was pretty much over the hunting and was just too excited to get to the hotel and their pool.

We obliged.  Our room was not quite ready for us when we showed up, so Daddy ran to the river for a  few casts.  After that, our room was still not ready, but they nicely let us use the pool bathroom to change into our swimsuits and get straight into the water.  Molly squealed with delight the entire time.  Sam just chilled in his whale floatie.  He seemed neither happy nor upset, so we took it as a success.

Daddy then went fishing again while Sam napped, I showered, and Molly watched a movie.  Luck was on his side and he caught one!  We then headed off to dinner and then, you guessed it, more fishing!  Molly, Sam and I watched Daddy for a bit.  We did not get to see him catch a second fish, but were able to see another guy reel one in.  At that point Molly said "I reeeealllly need Daddy to win."  It was too cute.

Watching Daddy and a movie from the hotel room before bed.

Daddy caught one before the kids where asleep and walked the fish to the room  for pictures.

Sunday Daddy was out fishing at first light while we ate some breakfast and hung out in the hotel.  Then it was time for some more pool time!  By this point, Sam decided he did like the pool.

It is so nice to be able to get to go on a trip like this with Chris and have such wonderful family time.

Riggins with Minnesota Friends

May 22nd-24th~

After Chris' friend from Minnesota, Joe, heard how great the Salmon season was going to be this year, he decided to check it out for himself.  He and his boss, Jeff, met Chris in Riggins and they all had a wonderful time.
  • Chris got 7 and brought 5 home
  • Joe got 2
  • Jeff got 3
Considering you can only catch two a day, and it is huge if Chris comes home with even one from a whole weekend fishing, I think everyone was very thankful for the great fishing.

Daddy's Girl

May 20th~
Daddy had to travel north for a meeting and was lucky enough to stay at Riggins and do some salmon fishing. He caught one that night and the next day Molly was out in the garage helping daddy clean the salmon.

I got home later from work and did not have time to ask her about the fish.  However the next day while I was doing her hair for school Molly told me all about it.
“I got to see Daddy’s big salmon.  It was a girl fish and daddy took out the eggs, I touched the fish but then washed my hands.”  I then asked if she wanted to go watch daddy catch a salmon one day and she said yes. “It was as big as me, like my big bass, but this was a big salmon.”

My 3 year old is going to be able to identify more fish then I am soon.  (Here is a picture from another fishing trip showing that yes the salmon are as big as Molly!)

Girl's Weekend

May 15-17th~

I had been looking forward to Girl's Weekend since it got put on the calendar over two months ago.

We had a little bigger crew than last year and we were all able to head out together.

After we dropped our stuff off at the cabin, we headed to My Father's Place for yummy burgers, fries, and shakes.  After that it was time for girl chat before heading to bed.

I claimed the downstairs bedroom and was pretty excited that I was able to sleep in until 9am! (Minus waking up at 6 to pump.)  We had a yummy breakfast, visited some more, and then went to a second hand store and coffee shop.  Then back for lunch...at 4pm.  After lunch everyone but Anna, Julienna, and me took off for home.  Anna and I had decided we were staying until the bitter end, but really left a little before noon on Sunday.

It was so great to get away for a little bit and attempt to get caught up on some much needed sleep.

The picture I think we are missing is of Anna and I pumping together!

Mother's Day

May 10th~

We decided the winery was more than we wanted to take on this year for Mother's Day.  Instead we headed to Eagle Island with the Koenig's for our picnic and wine tasting.

We brought my paddle board for it's maiden voyage and all the kids had a blast on it.  My arms got quite tired paddling all the kids around, so I was quite happy when the nieces were comfortable enough to take it out themselves.

And of course there was fishing.

We had great food, wine, fishing, friends and family.  You can't beat that!  And here is a cute little thing Molly filled out for me.....the movie comment really made me laugh, but with the pregnancy and then newborn, it was quite true!

Molly's First Dance Recital

May 9th~

With Molly's love for dance, we decided to sign her up for classes with Dance Connection.  They come to her school once a week, so that has made it very easy with my ever changing schedule. Molly loves it and her teacher, Ms. Elizabeth.  She asks every day if it is dance day today at school.

Since December they have been preparing for the Spring Dance Recital.  I was able to go and watch Molly at one of her practices and have been excited since to watch the final performance.

Molly was beyond adorable in her dance outfit, but once it was on she got pretty shy, even when it just Chris and I.  This made me nervous on how she would do when we had to hand her off.  Luckily she did fine.  She did great with her two dances (though when you are really only paying attention to your kid, who knows if she was doing what everyone else was doing).

The theme was Under the Sea and her two songs were Jelly Fish Rock and Roll, and Don't Wake the Whale.

After she was done we took her out to Red Robin to celebrate.  She loved her spicy water (sprite), the balloon she got, and the mini games in the front.

Park Play Date

May 6th~

Anna, Kelly and I decided to set up a playdate with our kiddos at the park.  The weather was a little chillier than I had expected, but the kids did not seem to notice.  All the kids took off running when we got there and played really well together.  The time went by way too quickly for us all; next time I think we will have to pack a picnic so we can stay a little longer.

5 months

May 3rd~

Do I continually say what a happy baby Sam is?  Because he is, and I love it.  A lot of that is thanks to Molly.  He is always happy to see Mommy and Daddy, but once Sister walks into the rooms his eyes sparkle.  It is the most amazing thing to see and I only wish there was a way to capture it.

His smiles are becoming more and more cute.  Sam still gives the whole open mouth, toothless grin, but now also gets his whole body involved.  He kind of bends over and brings his arms in close to his body and does a shake.

He has also started to get more excited for books and gives happy little leg pumps when I start to read one.  He does like to look at the pictures, but more than anything likes to stare into the face of whoever is reading him the book.

Sam is still not sleeping through the night, so we have started to give him baby cereal.  He is not super excited about it, but does take alot in.  Most of the time he tries to spit it onto his bib and then suck it off.  It has not seemed to increase the length of his sleep but it is fun to have another activity to do with him.

If Sam does start to get fussy it usually means he wants to stand up (his legs seem so strong!) or lay under his playmate and play with his toys.

Sam is extremely vocal nowadays and loves to chatter.  He is trying different ranges and octaves and loves when someone talks back to him.
